Youth Leadership Society of British Columbia Model United Nations is a one-day, one-committee conference held at the Executive Plaza Hotel in Coquitlam, BC. The conference is intended for novice and beginner delegates, and with a capacity for only 25 delegates, offers an encouraging environment for learning and experience building. In accordance with the conference’s goals of providing exceptional and equal opportunity to all students, the conference accepts delegates from both the secondary and post-secondary level.

The committee of this year’s conference is the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Specifically, the topic of debate will be on disrupting the global opiate trade. Today, the production of synthetic opioids proves itself to be double-edged sword. While beneficial to some, it destroys the livelihoods and social wellbeing of communities. Yet, the root of this issue is confounded with several underlying issues that are pertinent to economic, social justice, and cultural values.

The Secretariat is confident that delegates will display admirable leadership and diplomacy in leading nations and stakeholders from this crisis and toward a favourable resolution. In addition, to providing excellence in teaching model United Nations rules and procedure and debate skills during the conference, we are pleased to also be offering a training session prior to the conference on March 4th, 2018.
