Dear Delegates, Faculty Advisers, Alumni, and Friends,
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the next session of the Montreal United Nations Conference. The previous five editions have proven to be very exciting and successful events for our annual participants. We are looking forward to building on the positive results we achieved by making our next edition of the conference stronger, more ambitious and fulfilling.
Our sponsor Dawson College has been instrumental in providing the support and resources to make this event possible each year, allowing us to welcome so many delegates and high-quality speakers from the international community. Previous keynote speakers include Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport and Member of Parliament; Kathryn White, Chair of the Board of the World Federation of United Nations Associations; and François LaRochelle, President of the Greater Montreal United Nations Association in Canada Branch. We are committed to our vision of MUNC being an educational event for participants, facilitating for them the ability to meet and network with individuals from other schools, and partake in our immersive committee experiences.
We are bringing back some of your favourite creative committees that we organized last year such as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Press Forum (IPF). In making these high-quality simulations, we are bringing brand new committees to MUNC 2018 such as the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the United Nations General Assembly Task Force on Security Council Reform (UNGA). These classic bodies of the United Nations are key elements in the profile we have worked hard to maintain as Canada’s authentic Model United Nations simulation. This year, we will be simulating the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) in French. For those seeking a new twist with crisis elements, we are putting together a historical simulation of the Suez Crisis of 1956.
This creativity and inspiration is made possible through the strength and quality of our diverse staff, with students from throughout Montreal and across Canada working to make this experience incredible for you. We are featuring 10 committees this year being organized by a talented group of students working hard to deliver the expectations and quality that we have become known for. We are the Montreal United Nations Conference and our record of organizing exciting learning activities for our participants is what in return makes us one of Canada’s leading simulations of the United Nations.
Join us this November in downtown Montreal as we welcome hundreds of delegates from across Canada and throughout the international community for a weekend of exciting debate, networking and fun.
